We recently asked both students and teachers across the country what they were looking forward to most about returning to school this year. Here’s what they said!

Q: What are you looking forward to most about this upcoming school year?

STUDENTS:

“Seeing friends in person instead of on a screen.” – Oliver, Grade 4 Student

“Meeting our new teachers….and recess!”  – Abigail, Grade K Student & Jack, Grade 3 Student

TEACHER:

“I’m excited to see my students and families in person and meet my students wherever they are socially and academically. Our learning will have a real world lens and everyone will be accepted and validated for who they are and what they bring to our community.  I plan to continue some family engagement activities I started during remote learning like weekly zoom check-ins and family SEL activities. We will have a great year together no matter what it looks like!” – Wendy Turner, Delaware Teacher of the Year

STUDENTS:

“Having in-person science classes!” – Angelica, Grade 11 Student

“That I get to have fun classes like choir or drama which we didn’t have in elementary school.  Also, LOCKER DECORATING!”  – Bethany, Grade 7 Student

TEACHER:

“I’m looking forward to taking back the lessons learned from the past year and making a real change in the way I teach, engage, and personalize learning for all students.” – Esther Park, Instructional Designer

STUDENTS:

“I’m excited for science day where I get to eat marshmallows and gummy bears and do science activities all day!” – Amelia, Grade 3 Student

“I’m excited to see my friends…and learn about dinosaurs!” -Caleb, Pre-K Student

TEACHER:

“I’m really looking forward to meeting my students (hopefully all in-person). I hope to foster a community of learners that are not afraid to make mistakes and have plenty of opportunities for #MathPlay.” – Libardo Valencia, High School & College Math Teacher

STUDENTS:

“Pancake day for lunch…and learning new math.” – Elliott, Grade 2 Student

“Seeing my friends.” Peter, Grade 10 Student & Bailey, Grade 9 Student

And a concluding wish from DoDEA Teacher of the Year Kelisa Wing…

TEACHER:

“This school year,  I wish for everyone to remain healthy, safe, and happy!” – Kelisa Wing, Teacher of the Year for the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA)
