Lacy Asbill serves as the Board Chair of the Oakland Literacy Coalition; she also spent three years serving as the Vice Chair of Oakland Unified School District’s College and Career Readiness for All Commission, advocating for the centrality of social/ emotional learning in career pathway work. She is Moving Forward Institute’s co-founding director and has led the organization’s programs and services for the past 15 years. Moving Forward Institute has spent years custom-building social, emotional, and academic support programs for the highest need students in the San Francisco Bay Area, and has provided social and emotional learning programming, including Reading with Relevance, to thousands of low income, low-performing students. Her experience and expertise working with students makes her one of the leading educators in the SEL field and led her to develop Reading with Relevance, a CASEL certified resource that provides SEL Teacher Guides for important literary novels to engage and make the greatest impact on student learning and lives.
